Give Your Tradeshow Presence a Competitive Advantage

Taiwan has proven to be an appealing and profitable market for U.S. companies for many years. USDA’s Agricultural Trade Office or “ATO” reports that although it only has a limited population, Taiwan is the United States’ eighth largest trading partner in total agricultural goods and ninth largest overall U.S. trading partner.

Taiwan’s dependence on food and feed imports is expected to continue to grow due to its limited arable land and small agricultural sector.

The United States also exports many high-valued consumer oriented agricultural products, including beef, poultry, fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy, tree nuts, processed foods, and beverages. Taiwan relies on imports of essential agricultural commodities for food and feed purposes. The United States is viewed as a provider of high-quality, safe products and is currently the largest supplier of many consumer food products to Taiwan.

U.S. Food & Agricultural Product Imports to Taiwan, By the Numbers

  • U.S. Agricultural Products – US$1.7 billion (2020)
  • U.S. Processed Foods – US$609.7 million (2020)

Ohio Pet Food Supplier Gains Market Shares in South Korea and Taiwan https://www.foodexport.org/success-stories/ohio-pet-food-supplier-gains-market-share-in-south-korea-and-taiwan/ Tue, 27 Jul 2021 20:53:14 +0000 https://fx.sandstorm.tech/success-stories/ohio-pet-food-supplier-gains-market-share-in-south-korea-and-taiwan/ Founded by veterinarian, Dr. Gary Cotton, DVM ("Dr. Gary"), Best Breed Inc. is a family-owned holistic pet food company based out of Findlay, Ohio.

Dr. Gary founded Best Breed Inc. with his “Common Sense Nutrition” philosophy, promoting the healthiest pet food possible while disregarding typical marketing and cost control techniques used by other large pet food companies.  This high-quality product has been increasingly popular in South Korea, where Best Breed Inc. has continued their growth in the market through successful brand promotion via Food Export-Midwest’s Branded Program.

Since 2011, Best Breed Inc. has participated in Food Export-Midwest’s Branded Program. They have most recently used the program to gain brand awareness for their pet food and pet care products in South Korea and Taiwan. Using their allocated funding to complete online advertising and social media plans, complete in-store promotions, make label/package modifications, produce, and distribute promotion and literature materials helped the Ohio supplier earn substantial new sales to South Korea and Taiwan. With these sales Best Breed also projects to complete more considerable sales to these two markets over the next twelve months.

Per Levi Wittenmyer of Best Breed, “I cannot say enough good stuff about the folks I have worked with at Food Export. The level of service has greatly influenced how often we use the program and without a doubt has contributed to its success in driving our export sales.”

Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products. As these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.

As a result of the pandemic environment and in order to maximize exposure the event was conducted in-person and as a live-broadcast online. The main purpose was to increase the awareness among the trade of the vast opportunities to work with smaller and medium size value-added process food companies.

The program included a session on how Food Export programs and services can help the trade connect with qualified U.S. suppliers as well as how they can effectively work with U.S. suppliers utilizing the Branded Program for marketing purposes. A second session included a “2020 Top 10 Food Trends” and lastly a session in “Post-Pandemic Taiwan Market Changes”.

Attendees were welcomed by Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast Executive Director, Tim Hamilton and Agricultural Trade Office Director, Emily Scott.  Over 40 people attended the event in-person and over 140 participated on-line. Other attendees were very eager to gain information on available U.S. products for importing and the seminar generated 8 trade leads for Food Export. The event also has helped to keep a substantial and robust relationship with the trade during these times when it is challenging to have any other business-related events.

With funding and support from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Foreign Agriculture Service (FAS), Food Export has been instrumental in supporting the export of U.S. agriculture products for 50 years. Focusing on market development services, Food Export programs have opened markets for Midwest and Northeast Supplier’s products around the globe.

TaiwanSeminar

This free educational opportunity was made possible by the USDA Agricultural Trade Promotion (ATP) Program which was set in place in early 2019 to help mitigate the damage caused by retaliatory tariffs on U.S. agricultural products.

Food Export uses funding from the Agricultural Trade Promotion Program (ATP) and the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products.
